Fixing the annoying Windows 10  issue that lets the system “hang” for a short while before it goes back to normal and experiences a 100% disk usage in this time

PC Slowdown, hard disk usage 100%?

if you experience temporary slow downs and “hangs” that come and go once too often then you may face the same issue i had myself, it took me some time to get it fully figured as most blogs had bits and pieces to the solution that did not help to remove the issue. With this guide i hope you can safe time and immediately get a resolution for it.

the main issue are some services that are not even necessary if you are using a fast harddisk (ssd or sata 7200 rpm) as the drawbacks will outweigh the benefits.

as the solution requires you to do some changes in the registry please be very careful or ask someone that understands it to help you. for more info please read our disclaimer.

SuperFetch, Prefetch & SSD in Windows 10

Every time  you run an application in your PC, a Prefetch file which contains information about the files loaded by the application is created by Windows operating system. The information in the Prefetch file is used for optimizing the loading time of the application in the next time that you run it. SuperFetch attempts to predict which applications you will launch next and preloads all of the necessary data into memory. Its prediction algorithm is superior and can predict which next 3 applications you will launch by what time in a day.

In short SuperFetch and Prefetch are Windows Storage Management technologies that provide fast access to data on traditional hard drives. On Solid State Drives they result in unnecessary write operations.

Windows 7 and Windows 8 by default will automatically disable SuperFetch and Prefetch, once it detects an SSD on your system. (did not happen in mine though)
